Discovering A Northern Song Dynasty Bamboo Scroll Painting

In 2002 Qiu Da-ning, a Thai national of Chinese descent, discovered a huge ink bamboo scroll painting in his family’s collection. The result was heated controversy amongst the cultural-relics identification community on the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. The Core Cultural Association collected research on the artwork in the book Discovering a Northern Song Dynasty Bamboo Scroll Painting, generating more dialogue in the identification community on the painting’s authenticity, era of creation, painting style, and other subjects. If it is indeed authentic, and the painter was Wen Tong or Su Shi, its value can scarcely be imagined.
